A government-run marijuana store will open in Minnesota.
A government-run cannabis store in Osseo, Minnesota, is expected to open in mid-2026. This could be the state’s second municipally owned dispensary. Earlier this year, another city-owned store in Anoca broke ground in May. Minneapolis media reports that the city-owned store in Osseo will occupy 7,480 square feet of the former Osseo News headquarters. Last November, the city council approved an initiative providing a pathway for municipalities to enter the cannabis industry through a public-private partnership. Osseo partnered with Voyageur cannabis Services, a Minnesota-based cannabis retail management company, to oversee day-to-day operations. The partnership is expected to generate revenue for local services while reducing the tax burden on residents. Under Minnesota’s adult cannabis use laws, Osseo will hold the state’s cannabis license and collect profits from the store. Voyageur will handle staffing, training, compliance, and inventory management to ensure the business meets state standards. In addition to the municipal cannabis store, Osseo has also approved the opening of private retailer Roz Chunks. This dual approach is expected to boost economic activity while providing residents with more legal cannabis products.
